He gets to be President for his enormous ego but knows absolutely nothing about running a country. He will do whatever his masters in the GOP tell him and sign whatever they put in front of him.
IMO the "real" party (Ryan, McConnell, now Pence) didn't want him to be the candidate but they're certainly making the best of it as he's proving to be a most useful puppet.
