as much as I despise their mentality and their harboring hateful faux Christians, I empathize with them at this time. This is totally devastating.
There is a part of me that would hope this could be a learning lesson for them
(1) Climate change is real and while you cannot tie this fire directly to climate change, the fact that there will be greater periods of heat and cold, there is at least some tangential relationship
(2) The government does do things that are meaningful and important in their lives
(3) Compassion for others (e.g. Canada sending resources to assist) is a human good
But I doubt they will learn anything. They will probably be even more vocal in accusing the firefighters of trampling on their petunias or some such nonsense.
I do believe these people are beyond learning and understanding. But that does not diminish my concern for them and support for efforts to contain and extinguish the fire.
