I even applied for a job there when I was thinking about moving back. I was conflicted about moving back. I live in Michigan now and you would think because it wasn't the South that it would be so different. What I've learned is that there are just as many "rednecks" in Northern Michigan as in the South and that's no lie. I think if you live in or near a university town it's much more likely that you'll find like minded people who are more diverse, more educated, more liberal. I currently work at a university and am fortunate that I meet people from all over the world.
I would have probably been more likely to settle in Asheville if I had moved back. I doubt I'll leave here now since I have a grandbaby!
