What about the rest of us?
First Ladies may have non-elected roles, but they traditionally have played a public role not just as hostesses, but because of their relationship to the president have often been approached to advocate for certain notable causes. Over our history First ladies have come to have their own staff and typically have demanding schedules beyond being "...a loving and supportive wife and mother." We have come to expect to see First Ladies take up important community service roles with at least one of particular focus, which can be anything from advocating to remove the stigma of mental health (Rosalyn Carter) to better health (through food) and fitness of our nation's youth (Michelle Obama).
Of course they play important role models and everything they do and wear is of interest--they can be trendsetters.
If Melania wants to keep her life private, as Conway claims, she should probably have made it clear that she had no wish to step into the very public role of First Lady from the get-go, or told Donald that she had no desire to support him as he ran to become POTUS.
Perhaps she should start putting her ability to speak several languages to good use.
Meanwhile, she should move into the White House and stop passing on the extra expense of maintaining security for her and Barron at Trump Tower to the rest of us as we all get jack shit from her.
