41. Space heaters are a godawful waste of electricity.

It's also quite possible that the meteoric rise has to do with his increased usage putting him into a new rate bracket. When we use too much gas heating in the winter we get bumped into a higher per-unit cost plan and the bill jumps considerably. Same thing when we use a lot of electricity cooling this place come summer.
