I have noticed on more than one occasion Trump's tactic of grabbing the other person's hand and pulling him/her towards him in what I believe to be a deliberate attempt to upset the balance of the other. The idea is to make the other take a short step toward Trump in order not to fall forward. I am convinced that Trump does this as part of his dominance (read "bullying"
display. Perhaps the most egregious example of this was Trump's treatment of Japanese Prime Minister Abe this past weekend. (In that case Trump and Abe were sitting, so that the dominance display took the form of not letting go of the Prime Minister's hand for an extended period of time.)
I surmise that Trudeau and his diplomats planned and practiced his brilliant job of thwarting Trump attempt to carry out his standard handshake ritual. I think that this non-plussed Trump. If you watch the video at the end of the "hand-shake" Trump tried again to pull Trudeau's hand toward him -- and failed. Trudeau must have considerable hand and arm strength in order to have been able to repel Trump's ploy. I further suggest that the Canadians carefully (and successfully) choreographed Trudeau's response to Trump's crass behavior.
Congratulations Mr. Prime Minister for a well planned and well done job! You have been a model for all of us south of the border.
