(40,082 posts)I used to work on ships. The work environment has the peculiar force of bringing out any weaknesses in peoples' personalities.
At one point I was on a ship with 2 other guys and the three of us had been friends for some 15 years. But we were of different ranks so there was still a hierarchy. My one friend (the boss) became more insufferable and irritating as time went on and the other friend and I spent a lot of time complaining to each other about it. One day my second friend said "Hey, I gotta go take a... (using our friend name instead).
It was at that moment I realized that things had gone too far and that I was in danger of losing two old and trusted friends. I immediately went up to our boss and started talking to (and with) him. We did not actually discuss the problem but it seemed clear to me that he was in a bad spot too. In a short time the whole situation changed and for the better.
It was a valuable lesson.
Calling Trump awful names and metaphorically spitting on his Wife and family may give some low level temporary satisfaction but it brings us down too. And does nothing to solve the underlying problem.
I'll get off my soapbox now. Regular programming will resume shortly.
