The brainwashing technique is a form of what is known as "psychic driving". It was invented by Dr. Ewan Cameron for the CIA's MK Ultra project in the 50s and 60s. The vehicle for the messaging is RW talk/hate/religious radio. 24 hours a day for 40 years, with no balancing viewpoints presented, ever.

As a result of that onslaught they live in a different universe to those of us who have escaped re-programming. In their world the rules, logic, and the interpretation of events and facts are divorced from what we perceive as "reality" by their artificially warped mental states.

They are not stupid. They are "Manchurian Voters". It's the only thing I've found that explains their thought processes.

If you can tolerate it, read a few comment threads on Free Republic with this idea in mind. You may be startled to see how well the idea fits.
