That did happen in the late 60's, the 70's and 80's. Young gay men (and women) would escape their 100% "Christian" small town to the nearest big city. Often with nothing of value but their bodies. And if they were very lucky they were taken in by already established LGBT people who gave them a couch to sleep on until they could learn the local community, get a job of whatever sort, etc.. - until they had some agency of their own. If they were very unlucky they were found first by chicken hawks who would also give them space on the couch, but for a price. They were predators.

It does not surprise me one bit that a conservative cannot tell the difference between the two situations. They want to be the predators in life.
