(76,643 posts)First, i agree with you. The whole "government" as business is stupid because the government is not meant to be run as a business. There is no profit motive and there are things that need to be done without regard to the return on investment. (Defense being a glaring example.)
Now, what you forgot is that he is not a good businessman. He had 4 companies fail and declared bankruptcy, using a twist in the law to get out from under crushing debt caused by his mismanagement and lack of strategic planning.
He also inherited nearly $400 million which if just put in an array of index funds would have resulted in an average personal discretionary income of $30 million per year and an ending balance of roughly $1 billion more than he has.
His business "savvy" is so profound that he could have lived a life of opulence and still had an extra billion had he done NOTHING.
