Originally it was an insult, like "slacktivist", that referred to people that claimed progressive causes (usually with a holier-than-thou attitude), but obviously spent all their free time on internet forums, leaving no time to do anything productive for progressive causes. So the "warrior" part was the sarcastic insulting part of the phrase.
Eventually, rightwingers co-opted the phrase to insult liberals in general.

'bigot' works quite well. So does 'racist', since they hate being called that. And 'Nazi'.
