The narrative I'm sensing is that 45/140 is growing in popularity (even, some say, among Democrats). The narrative is that all the anti immigrant activity is growing in popularity.
Right here on DU there have been reports of 45/140's polls going up, with some showing his favorable in the high 40s. When he is no longer upside down, that will be a line crossed.
Right here on DU there was a report that his long time nemesis, the New York Daily News, has softened their coverage of him.
Medians speak more evenly about him, infusing the narrative with normalcy. Coverage remains "balanced", wherein the most evil proposals imaginable are discussed in terms that frame them as mainstream.
It might be outrage overload. It might be a collective acquiescence.
Whatever it is, I fear that the resistance of even a week or two ago is fading. Take the coverage of yesterday's Women's Day marches. The coverage was an afterthought by the media. Even here, the coverage seemed muted. Contrast that to the coverage of the recent pro-45/140 rallies. These events drew tiny groups, some in the single digits, yet they got covered, even to the point of forced, odd camera angles that obfuscated the tiny attendance. To anyone paying just casual attention, these events appeared as significant as any opposition event.
As this narrative gains momentum, soon enough this administration will be seen simply as the next one in Normal American Politics.
Even though we ALL know on simple fact:
This Is Not Normal.
