In reply to the discussion: MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell says Sec. of State Tillerson is making official [View all]Stonepounder
(4,033 posts)19. Is the President of the United States and his Sec State committing treason?
18 U.S. Code § 2381 - Treason
Current through Pub. L. 114-38. (See Public Laws for the current Congress.)
US Code
Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.
(June 25, 1948, ch. 645, 62 Stat. 807; Pub. L. 103322, title XXXIII, § 330016(2)(J), Sept. 13, 1994, 108 Stat. 2148.)
Seems to me that both that there seems to be an awful lot of evidence coming out that strongly implies that both Trump and Tillerson meet the legal definition of treason. I would love to see this proved in an Impeachment proceeding, criminal court, and then a Millitary firing squad to let everyone that the US stands strong and will not suffer treason lightly.
Note: Please notice that I am not advocating illegal violence against the President or anyone else. I am stating an opinion that if proved that Trump is a willing actor putting the interests of Russia ahead of the United States he and those persons working in concert with him should suffer the maximum penalty allowable by law, duly imposed by a legally constituted court having the appropriate jurisdiction.
