Rape culture has existed pretty much forever. Men on Rape, by Timothy Benecke (1982) illustrated it very well using men's own words. When I volunteered at the rape crisis center for a decade in the late 70s/early 80s, I could have told you hundreds of stories like this one.
Yes, Trump gave permission for men to display their contempt for women more publicly. Without minimizing the violence of all rape, this kind of physical brutality by a stranger, out of the blue, is not what Trump "legitimized." He didn't hang out in bathroom stalls and physically brutalize strangers. He used his money and power to gain access to women.
No one who would have condemed this attack before thinks it's just fine and dandy now because of Trump.
