(29,648 posts)I've been dealing with a fear of something like this happening to me for years.
Obviously there is no direct Trump connection, but incidents like this are one of the many, many reasons I think it's important to have women governors and (someday) a woman president, so that there will be more laws in place to protect us. We keep people in jail for years on minor drug infractions, but men who assault women seem to get back out of the streets. We need to reverse this.
I'm glad she's okay. But I can guarantee you it will happen again soon, and over and over, till all segments of society respect a woman's right to go out and about her daily activities as she chooses.
I was assaulted at a bus stop a year and a half ago - on a busy street, at about 9:00 p.m. I, too, fought off the attacker (who was not caught), but it was awful and it made me re-think doing errands at night on the bus. And, I reported it. I looked it up later on the SPD incident map, and it was not listed as an assault. It said, "attempted purse snatching". Excuse me? I was attacked!!!
A few months later, a slew of my neighborhood buses were cut, and the changes entailed having to transfer and wait outside in the dark for a second bus to come along. I called everyone I could in local government to protest this. Nothing happened.
