Hello, our state park coalition members said they need our help to spread the word.

There has been a proposal put forth in Oklahoma that would effectively CLOSE 16 state parks across Oklahoma. This was purposed by legislature which is looking at cutting funding to the Oklahoma Tourism & Recreation Department by 14.5%, on top of the 38% cuts that have been taken in the last few years.

These cuts won’t be cutting the “fat” out of the parks’ budgets, like they claim. These cuts are going to cut the basic operation of these parks, programs, picnicking, camping, hiking and safety. Since 2011, the number of state parks has already dropped from 50 to 33.

Those state parks that would currently be effected by these closings are: Talimena, Great Plains State Park; Cherokee Landing State Park; Natural Falls State Park; Red Rock Canyon State Park; Great Salt Plains State Park; Lake Eufaula State Park; Lake Wister State Park; Alabaster Caverns State Park; McGee Creek State Park; Foss Lake State Park; Osage Hills State Park; Greenleaf State Park; Lake Texoma State Park; Grand Lakes State Parks and Boilings Springs State Park.
