In reply to the discussion: Feinstein and Grassley grim and silent after Trump-Russia briefings with Comey [View all]wiggs
(8,813 posts)the worst suspicions are true, those few people in government...10 or 20....have a decision to make:
Do they insist all the truth comes out? Do they expose all of Trump's skeletons that would nullify his ability to be POTUS...Do they force a constitutional crisis, create instability, embarrass the US, create vulnerability via a gap in effective government while this sorts out? What if it's clear the election was fraudulent? There's no constitutional remedy for that...impeachment doesn't address an invalid election. Maybe it would have to be taken to the Supreme Court?
OR
Do they cut a deal with the WH? Let only SOME of the information out in exchange for resignations? Minimize instability in government, minimize embarrassment....and keep some semblance of order? Keeping the worst of the Trump insanity secret? Trump goes...Pence maybe goes.
The gang of 8 are generally serious officials. They would have some interest in discussing how damage to the US brand can be avoided. I'm for total transparency here, myself, but I'm aware that we are in historic uncharted waters.
