(343 posts)I would imagine that coverage does not start immediately....there most likely is a waiting period. So, that might be OK unless you get a serious illness or have an accident before the insurance kicks in. Then, you're left with all the medical bills from treatment and the premium payments for the insurance when it does kicks in. Insurance is costly, yes. But not being insured can be far more costly if you're in need of some serious treatment. I would never take the chance of racking up medical bills without decent health insurance coverage. Scenario: You have a serious accident that keeps you out of work. All your sick and vacation days are used up. It might be difficult to pay insurance premiums and living expenses until you're back to work, but it would be far more difficult if you had a mountain of medical bills because you don't have insurance. Just things I think about.
