(58,785 posts)she won the primary, as almost all expected to all along if he lost. Many of them ARE "us," and many still like him also. We really, really need to respect sensible Bernie-Hillary supporters and NOT confuse them with what has developed into a fringe extreme still identifying with his name.
As for that other, though, THAT <10% includes many who actually are in for some destruction, anything from relatively minor "reforms" the party opposes up to and including Bannon's version and/or others. Both extremists who despise cooperation and moderation and resentful "populists" with intense antagonism toward an amorphous "the establishment," both predisposed by nature against Democratic Party mainstream candidates. And for the kind of lies and conspiracy constructs that prove them right about everything.
Bernie spent his quarter century in congress as effectively a mainstream Democrat, but using his very real oratorical abilities to identify himself as very different and constantly badmouthing Democrats made many of these people flock to his left-wing version of "I alone will fix it" message. Rump was also wooing them with his populist message.
A long way of saying, sure the <10% included some who were just carried along by the spirit a while longer before regaining their clarity.
But the rest of this determined opposition are who and what they are. They will not change. And if destruction, or "revolution" as they rallied to this time, is what it'll take to defeat the Democrats and Republicans, many will be in for it again. Under a new, shinier, younger, and far better funded leader, I'm guessing. Right or left wing is an individual decision, and at very least caring Democrats should not be encouraging them to go right.
