38. Honestly this was standard even when you DID have a "love match" (I am not talking about Trump!)

It was the standard for centuries for many reasons, even with "love matches," including standard palace and castle security, and honestly it wasn't a recent phenomenon or just for affairs (hell the flagrant kings had their own entire palaces with their official and not-official mistresses -- see Louis XV who actually bankrupted France and left his hapless grandson to take the fall for his incessant womanizing and flagrant spending. Everyone including his wife and their husbands knew about every single one of his royal mistresses -- such as the famous Madame Pompadour who was very powerful politically).

Queens and aristocratic wives had their own affairs too of course -- generally this wasn't frowned upon UNLESS it was seen as a political move to undermine the king, as it was (and worked) in certain famous cases, or if the King decided to act like this was a problem for another reason (Henry VIII's lies about my namesake Queen Anne Boleyn having multiple affairs including with her own brother (ridiculous), which under Tudor law justified her execution based on treason -- oh and they accused her of witchcraft as well -- most historians think that Anne never had any affairs while they were married. She likely had an affair (she was not married; Wyatt was) earlier in her life with the famous Tudor poet Thomas Wyatt. He was accused but not convicted in the trial of Anne. He couldn't believe that he wasn't executed).

Sorry to drone on. I'm a medievalist (well Med/Ren), and I always fall into this habit!

Of course none of this applies to the traitor to Russia. He is no aristocrat, and I hope Melania escapes as soon as possible. Trump barely even acknowledges Barron. That kid is going to have things to say about Daddy.
