I'm convinced that many republican supporters keep voting against their own economic interests because they hope and expect that Trump & Friends will stick it to the "other" guy. They are are all bullies supporting bullies. The woman in the story was totally ok if "other" peoples' lives were disrupted, except she didn't expect it to boomerang.
