By Jake Sherman
11/18/14 03:53 PM EST

California Rep. Devin Nunes will be the next chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

Nunes, who was elected in 2002, replaces Michigan Rep. Mike Rogers, who is retiring. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) appoints the chairman of the Intelligence and Ethics committees. He named Pennsylvania Rep. Charlie Dent as chairman of the Ethics Committee.

Nunes, a close ally of Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), is also on the Ways and Means Committee. Nunes represents the Central Valley of California.

Florida Rep. Jeff Miller and New York Rep. Pete King were also vying for the intelligence gavel.
