And Hillary won except for the electoral college - by close to 3 million votes.

Right now, National Fair Vote legislation is being pushed in a number of states. I think we have to change the structure itself, and that has the potential to really help.

I don't know how to change the structure, but both sides have their fringe elements, and then there are those who congregate toward the center of the Bell curve, either left or right. The problem is these people aren't laughed straight off the public stage.

The truth is we're always going to have people like me who tend toward a more socialistic believe in government solutions, and not privatizing public goods, like health care and prisons. And, there are people equally sure of their opinions, who believe in market solutions.

Somehow we have to get rid of the polarization so we can start having sane conversations. It is possible.

In fact, it WAS possible until we had the concerted effort from the US Chamber of Commerce in response to the Lewis Powell memo, culminating in Reagan killing the Fairness Doctrine. Now, not so much.

Can we recover? Get back to sanity in public discourse? Will we ever be able to begin thinking at a species-level about ourselves, understanding that the 20K people who starve to death every day have the same human value as we ourselves.
