Drove through a main street in Myrtle Beach and was horrified to see the number of places with the word "Plantation" in the name. Plantation Restaurant, Plantation Hotel.
They may as well have hung the Confederate Flag and claimed it was "just heritage".
What struck me most was how "normalized" the word was---this constant message to both white and black citizens that this word was not freighted with a horrific and unexamined meaning.
And on top of this is that Myrtle Beach has a national and maybe international visitor base because of the golf course. So the town had no shame at all and expected any visitor to be of the same mindset.
