Trump is a shape-shifter. He relies on creating disequilibrium, getting folks off-balance. I wouldn't be surprised to see him do something intentionally aimed at getting the alt-right solidly back behind him again. It's what he has done his entire adult life.
Long-term (hopefully not too long though), I can't see him maintaining all of his support on this particular stage -- the Presidency is too big even for him. If he's not impeached before or after 2018, he's going to have a hard time winning again in 2020 without his current level of support, even relying on nefarious means. At least that's my hope. Well, one of my hopes -- the other is a bit more morbid.
