(151,273 posts)In my experience, almost everyone I know in the 50+ age group is really, really looking forward to being on Medicare. I've been on it for six years now, and never worry about healthcare at all. It's covered by Medicare and my $114 supplement that covers what Medicare doesn't. It's a win-win situation all around.
My wife, who is four years away from Medicare has to sweat out the whole ACA thing every year. Even with her subsidy, it costs her almost $600/month for coverage that has a $3500 out-of-pocket max. Since she had hip replacement surgery this February, she has already hit that maximum, so she won't be paying any co-pays the rest of the year. There are still those premiums, though.
My premiums for Medicare and the supplement are about $220 per month. No co-pays at all, except for prescriptions, but my prescriptions are all cheap generics, so three months of all three costs about $60.
Medicare is fabulous! It truly is.
