6. The only businesses that reliably attract crime

...are police stations.

Crime statistics are a mess to work out. For example, a business that attracts police officers -- coffee shop with good donuts, say -- will trend an area upward in crime statistics. Why? More cops means more crime is spotted and dealt with.

Small towns all know this. Hire more police officers if you think you need them and can afford them, but for god's sake don't release crime statistics after, because there will miraculously have been more crime like right away.
