Especially because the GOP will want to keep him in for 2 years to maximize the amount of time his successor will potentially have. If he's out after a year, the successor will get his 3 remaining years plus one full term, 7 years. If he hangs on for two, he'll get those and 2 full terms, 10 years.

And yes, they are playing this game.

However, Asshole presents a threat much worse than Nixon, so some things are moving more quickly, like picking off his Russian loyalist aides, appointees, and good buddies one by one, isolating him from Putin and leaving him with only GOP loyalists.

My best guess says that once isolated, he'll quit. If it takes impeachment and removal, that will drag out for two full years and they'll try to keep Pence, something in doubt now that he's been tainted with the same scandal.

We had rumor mills back in the early 70s, too, usually in the form of small tabloid papers run by fellow freaks in the bigger cities and circulated at college campuses. We also had planted stories from the administration from time to time. The only difference now is one of scale.

Be careful what you read and believe and where you read it. And pop some popcorn, this one is gong to take awhile and since it's not our mess, it's theirs, we might as well enjoy the show.
