In reply to the discussion: Should the United States have a standard Psychological Test [View all]nolabear
(43,850 posts)I know a lot of people who do all kinds of assessments for various things. There's a stunningly wide range of things to test for if you want to go there, you can't brain scan for most things, self reporting tests are utterly useless, and anyone who wants the job and has gone to all that trouble isn't going to say they get depressed or have manic swings or hear voices. People are too sophisticated not to know what tests are getting at and can easily reply what's best for them. And frankly if you worked at it you could disqualify damn near anyone.
Psychologists aren't saints either. They have participated in some shady diagnoses and treatments over time.
History and actions are what has to be observed and somewhere along the line someone in the administration has to be Brave enough to point out potentially dangerous or impeachable behavior and decisions have to be made. But there's no way to screen for that kind of thing in any practical way.
