The term far left is provably derived from the French National assemblies of the revolution, so the factions that sat at the far left are what was referred to. That is what the term means, it has a definition that allows us to communicate. Since the term did not exist at the time of our revolution and the term was coined by the French in reference to their revolutionary assemblages, why would you want to know who sat in a different French assembly.
This is not rocket science. Of course there is some ambiguity in how far, far left means. All the people at the far left were not identical. Some of Robespierre's accomplices in the reign of terror might not have been as thrilled when they used the guillotine to revenge themselves. Some might have been more delighted. Does it really matter?
