A father accused of abducting his son Monday from a Clarendon County gas station was hiding in a swampy area near Paxville as of presstime, while authorities continued to look for the 2-year-old boy.

An Amber Alert was issued Monday for a 2-year-old Brandon Lee Dubose II who authorities say was abducted by his 32-year-old father.

"When he went in that swamp the child was not with him; when he got out of the truck he was," Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett said during a press conference.

Monday night's search was focusing on finding the child, Garrett said. The elder Dubose was believed to be in the Sammy Swamp. Tracks made by Dubose indicate the child was not with him.
