I can have respect for people who personally object to abortion, [View all]

but who understand that their personal objection should not apply to others. There are more than a few Democrats who take that position, and I have no objection to them. I can vote for them, as well.

There are many things I do not do because they violate my own personal ethical standards. Other than actions that harm others, the environment and other things, I do not insist that others follow my own ethics. That would be wrong of me to do. That's also part of my ethical compass.

I have no problem with people who would never have an abortion under any circumstances, as long as they don't seek to impose that belief on anyone but themselves. One can be a Democrat and a progressive and hold that view, as long as it applies only to oneself.

I certainly don't share that objection, nor do I wish to impose my individual preferences on anybody else.
