It was not the only proximate cause. I had one (now former) friend who insisted that Hillary Clinton would be indicted for her e-mail server. This man got very angry with me for telling him to stop pushing this nonsense.

Of course Bernie Sanders supporters are not monolithic. I am only pointing out that part of that group was pretty fucking extreme, and this person was not the most extreme.
