(229 posts)but she's working hard here on behalf of Mello, who was in support of it and who is a rabid right wing extremist.
Bernie didn't do his homework here, he caved to the ego flattering requests of a fan and stepped in it big time, and decided to go full Republican by doubling down on his error rather than admitting it.
There seems to be nothing else behind this than proving that he has no actual interest in unifying or working with the party he scorns and has been attacking. He has given the GOP ammunition and created a whole news cycle about the supposed division among Democrats.
His acolytes here have been twisting themselves into various contortions trying to defend his poor judgment and the inability to do so with any credibility has rendered them frustrated and lashing out with TOS violating levels of personal insults and divisive abuse.
It's sad, but many are waking up to what millions saw in Bernie, a guy who talks a good talk but is not as pure as he claims to be and is willing to compromise on core principles if his ego is stroked enough. A deep disappointment, and one that his fans apparently can only handle by attacking those who point out facts.
