In reply to the discussion: Sanders: Obama's paid Wall Street speech 'distasteful' [View all]gratuitous
(82,849 posts)I know that fomenting division between folks on the left is the raison d'etre for a lot of our good friends in the media, but President Obama's speaking fee is, frankly, nobody's business.* But the money Obama is being paid comes out of the pockets of the people who hired him to speak. The millions in expenses Trump incurs every weekend in Florida comes out of the Treasury. I wonder why Ms. Malveaux and CNN aren't asking our elected officials about those costs to the American taxpayer?
Or is it too distasteful and not a good idea to ask elected officials about that?
*I will make an exception for anyone who made complaints about the seemliness of President Reagan stepping out of the Oval Office in 1989 and into a $2 million honorarium for a speech to Japanese businessmen. If you were out, loud and upset back then, I'll give you a pass on complaints about President Obama's honorarium of 20% of that amount.
