(3,921 posts)The Clinton/Obama vision came to dominate the Dem party because it put forth an optimistic vision of a reformed capitalism, one where everyone was included, iow 'progressive capitalism' most rank-and-file Dems agree with, much to the dismay of some on the populist left, that, like Sanders seem to want a Euro-socialist type system more than anything else that harbors a negative view of achievement. This simply isn't in the DNA of America, a country that has been about alot of things good and bad, but fundamentally about the doors of achievement/excellence being open to regular people. The Clintons/Obamas represent this ideal to a tee - middle/working class roots (in Bill and Barack's case, from single mother homes), self-made, ambitous, etc. Of course the Clintons and Obamas would want to make money, give speeches, write books, etc - to build their legacy, which is their right.
