What people don't know is that Gardendale agreed to let the North Smithfield students continue to go there, so I don't see this as being as racial as it is financial. Gardendale is a booming city following several other booming cities in Jefferson county by forming their own school districts, but according to the law they are allowed to do this.

"Under Alabama law, cities of more than 5,000 residents can form independent school systems, and Gardendale had argued that the federal court should have no say over its separation. "
