(15,388 posts)Yet another thread trashing Bernie.
Bernie did criticize several of Obama's positions, as did I. In particular his drone policies and the secrecy in which the TPP was negotiated, with the democracy-killing ISDS provisions. Those things didn't work for me, sheshe. Yet, I did love Obama and genuinely believe he will go down in history as a great president. And a great man.
Just like FDR, who of course merited criticism because of his slowness in even acknowledging the injustice of Jim Crow and segregation. Yet FDR, too, was a great president and a great man.
Bernie isn't perfect either. But I sure do like his policies. And did you see Warren on Bill Maher last night? What a firebrand! Would that she will run in 2020! I'll hit the streets, cane and all, in her support!
It is my considered opinion (and yes I have a right to it, same as you do to yours) that we need to keep pounding at the economic justice these two are talking about. The meme that social justice is more important than economic justice is just right wing garbage designed to divide us. If our government, which supposedly is a government of, by and for the people, actually used our tax money for programs that benefit Americans by rebuilding our infrastructure, investing in the education of our children and grandchildren, preserving freedom of choice for women, enacting laws that support equal pay for equal work, expanding Social Security and implementing Medicare for all Americans instead of where it goes now, which is to line corporate coffers, then we'd all be better off.
Because the overwhelming majority of us can ALL get behind those things.
Then, when we get the progressives in power, we can overturn Citizens United, get corporate money out of politics, reenact the Fairness Doctrine, and begin pounding on social justice when we can actually get the word out without it being ignored - because the teeth of Fox news and hate-talk radio will be pulled.
Oh, well...are we smart enough to accomplish this? Do we have the political guts? Do we as a people have the perseverance to actually dig for the facts, and find out the truth about stuff so that a better decision at the polls can be made?
Nah.
Long sigh.
