In reply to the discussion: Canton, TX just took direct hit by tornadoes [View all]rainbow4321
(9,974 posts)She put a comment in a FB news link post that she was at the trading day site and when word came that a 2nd tornado warning was in effect a lot of people got in their cars to leave the area. Hopefully this didn't lead to a higher casualty rate...there's a reason people are told to shelter in place during a tornado warning.
But I could see how people could panic and think they would just get away, especially if they were non-locals at trading days and not familiar with tornado safety, etc..
Last Twitter report said 5 deaths. I hope daylight findings don't increase that number. Some cars were blown into a creek, apparently. A local TV station photojournalist was interviewed. He had talked to his first responder son who said that they had pulled a child out of a car in the creek and CPR was in progress.
Thank goodness for social media. It has it's ups and downs but in cases like this all the breaking news and updates/local people speaking out are coming via FB and Twitter. If we relied on MSM we'd maybe find out Monday sometime that this had happened...
