france was a key ally in our formative years and expressing thanks in paris for their role in our independence would actually be a very presidential thing to do.

but such is the state of moronic knee-jerk jingoism in america these days that obama-haters would no doubt vilify him from the base of the statue of liberty and no one in the media would point out the irony, if they even realized it.
