They had a child they insisted was not quite two (I took their word for it, though I think they were lying). Their plan was that the person in the middle (me), if she showed up, would be shunted to the window, which is why they took the other two seats. I think they were hoping the middle seat would be empty. I like kids, but I didn't want to be trapped in the inside seat for a five-hour flight, especially if the (supposed) 1.9 year old fell asleep, so I told them that I'd be willing to take the aisle, and they both gave me the stinkeye most of the flight.

Having a kid on a flight does not entitle anyone to special treatment. I was more than happy to stand up on the aisle seat I eventually got when they needed to get up, but I wasn't going to play their little seat game.
