(81,196 posts)BOOM. Well, he's now on my list of BIGTIME Bench-Strengthers and Maybe-Presidential-Candidate-Or-Even-President-Someday.
And then he threw in a quick aside about how he strives to work in a bipartisan manner, and how he's done a lot of reaching out across the aisle. Well, you'd need that in a President, certainly. And he's young. Yet another point on his side of the scoreboard. Smart, informed, articulate, authentic, compassionate, seems genuinely interested in the plight of his people - and in this case, of course, his district neighbor's people (since that neighbor's staffers don't seem to be answering his phone these days). And he photographs well, too - a very pleasant look, not too handsome, generally non-threatening. He has a "regular guy" appeal.
Btw, I think that's a FFFFFRRRREEEEEEEEAAAAAAKIN' Brilliant idea!!! That idea is Brilliant! OMG. Did he think that up himself? Then he's shrewd as hell as a strategist (which we desperately need), because this is FREAKIN' BRILLIANT!!! And this should go farther than just other Dem Reps serve as surrogates, prospective opponents should do that, too.
Seriously. Prospective Democratic candidates seeking to unseat these bastards should step forward! What an exquisite way to introduce yourselves and engage with prospective voters! "Hi - I'm (your name here) and I'm thinking of running against (name of GOP incumbent) next year. I'LL do his/her town hall with you! I'd be honored to! He/She may be afraid to face you but I'll step up! Let's do one ANYWAY! Ask me anything! I'd love to meet you because I'd love to represent you!
These folks NEED to reach out and find someone ready to be reached out to. NOW. This is an increasingly grim time. Especially if you're now, in actuality, facing the prospect of losing health care coverage. It is now a very real concern even for people on their employer's insurance, because of various slick, sneaky-ass moves imbedded for the purposes of manipulating or getting around whatever poor excuse for a health care plan they finally come up with. There is FEAR out there. There's fear within families - the fear of kids who dread coming home from school one random afternoon and discovering that their mom has been snatched for deportation. There is FEAR out there. There's a general fear throughout the population about this vulgar, bloated, vainglorious orange jackass starting World War Three - with his mouth. There is FEAR out there. People are FEARFUL. I've brought up my age here before - 63. I've never seen this. I've NEVER seen this level of fear. Just plain abject FEAR. I watched that breast cancer survivor Xeni Jardin actually starting to cry during an interview on the Chris Hayes show - out of fear because of a grave illness that left her with a pre-existing condition and the very real prospects of losing her health insurance. Crying! That was NO fake. Not fake news. Not fake tears. FEAR. We need new, sympathetic, reassuring young faces like Maloney to come forward, inspire, encourage. His time may be NOW.
Sean Patrick Maloney is really looking pretty doggone terrific right now. And if they LIKE you, if you're likable, you're starting halfway home already. A star is born! This guy is worth watching and his career is worth following.
