As much as I speak out that Hillary was a horrid choice for us in the current climate, I think she would have been a great president. I voted for her. I just think we made a mistake in underestimating how much those on the right detest her, and thinking that we could get past that. We nominated a person who was currently, whether it was bogus or not, under active investigation. Is their hatred based on 30 years of bogus lies and bullshit ? YASSSSSS. Did that matter to those who voted for someone else, to those who see her as the ultimate corrupt politician ? Not one bit. Yes, all they have ever had against her was bullshit, but their side, and plenty of the undecideds, BELIEVED IT.
As Twain said, "The glory which is built upon a lie soon becomes a most unpleasant incumbrance... How easy it is to make people believe a lie, and how hard it is to undo that work again!"
In a different climate, Hillary should have won. But we must take full stock of the opponent and their beliefs before we choose a candidate. Can the right make bullshit arguments against just about anyone ? Swiftboats say yes... but to assume going in that we could overcome that *pre-existing* powerful lie was a mistake.
