for a Republican. And at least he started out in small-town politics before moving on to Congress. (His voice still drove me up the nearest wall, though).

Since California - especially around LA - has a lot of people connected with the film and TV industries you'd expect some would run for office, and IIRC there are a fair number who have run for local offices and done OK. It's the people who decide because they've achieved some level of notoriety that they are entitled to the highest office available that I don't like. We get them in my neck of the woods as well, but here they're more likely to be tech people.
