it wasn't just Trump voters that bought into some of his BS - until he's crashed and burned on honesty since his inauguration, he was viewed as more honest than Clinton. Because he spouted racist and sexist BS, some thought he was refreshingly honest by not being politically correct. And, his gaffes and lack of knowledge on the issues prior to the election could be written off as a lack of political experience and him not being a professional politician.
