No, you place it on file as a documented record and allow the truth to prevail in due time, after the investigation is completed. You take measures as needed to ascertain you do not compromise your investigations in the meanwhile. For Comey, the Sally Yates firing would have been part of a pattern of obstruction of justice after his conversation with Trump, and from that point on obstruction would have been on his radar as part of the larger inquiry into the election interference investigation. Comey knew they were in Watergate territory way back then.

So, this week we might see if Boente was actually protecting the TrumpRussia investigation by doing what he could to keep his position. Rosenstein and Boente may be presenting Trump's indictment to the full Senate on Thursday, if they still have their jobs then.
