If "the Party" (shouldn't "the Party" be more than "the leadership"?) can accept and promote the Connecticut for Lieberman candidate over a Democratic Party nominee, they shouldn't have had any problems... unless it's a more a restricted access club than a political party. Remember, the "Connecticut for Lieberman" party didn't exist until their candidate lost the Democratic Party primary for his position. Democratic office holders and party members lined up to provide support - to the guy running against the Democratic candidate.
