It's win, win.
I think it is great to have this controversy. It will give millions of Americans pause and cause them to ask why Obama would suggest that a patron unhappy with Fox News should request that it be turned off.
Many, many, many Americans actually believe that Fox tells both sides of the story. They haven't studied literature or journalism (and never will) and don't understand how Fox twists things. Through its choice of language, of interviewees, of topics, Fox News manipulates and selects its language and news stories to favor Republicans. So do other news media, so we should seek balance.
If you want good, deep news coverage, listen to Pacifica Radio.
And if you live somewhere without a Pacifica station, listen on the web.
Ian Masters and some of the other newscasts give a really good look at issues. Democracy Now can't be beat.
And then you turn to traditional TV and radio to get "the other side" so that you have balance.
The problem with Fox News isn't that it has a point of view. It is that people watch Fox News day in and day out. Nothing but Fox News and entertainment shows -- makes Jack a dull boy. And that is what too many Americans are -- dull.
If you watch Democracy Now and then Fox, you can see the difference. On Democracy Now, the people being interviewed are given time to finish their sentences -- to convey thoughts. On Fox, it's newstainment. Only the interviewer gets to complete a thought. The person being interviewed only gets to talk as long as the interviewer agrees with what he or she is saying.
So you have "both sides" showing their faces on Fox, but you really only fully hear what one of the faces is thinking. Very clever -- Fox. But not very trustworthy when it comes to news.
But then all you DUers know all this. I'm just writing to support Obama and for the lurkers and trolls.
