Remember when Russia asked to monitor Houston, TX polling places? [View all]
Ran across this when I was googling the head of TX GOP party recently resigning, trying to see if he had any Russia connections. Google brought up an entry from TX Public Radio because he was quoted on a page that talks about when Russia asked to not only monitor polling places in Houston but also OK and Louisiana.
Just one of many things that probably had us all going "meh..." back THEN but makes you wonder NOW how it fits in with Russiagate/Trump.
Side note..the TX SOS Casco mentioned in the article resigned shortly afterwards.

The Russian consulate general in Houston has asked if its delegation can monitor polling places during the Nov. 8th election in Texas. The state's Secretary of State Carlos Cascos not only denied the Russians' request but said if it happened they would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
In a letter, Zakharvo says his government simply wanted to study the U.S. experience in the organization of the voting process. Cascos, in the return letter, told the Russian delegation that would not be possible.

We reached out to the Russian consul generals office in Houston, but they were not available for comment. Texas was one of three states that turned down such requests from Russia. The other two states were Oklahoma and Louisiana.
