the comparisons to childhood are overdone and a bit misplaced in benedict donald's case.

as others have noted elsewhere, there are many ways likening him to a child fails.

he lacks a child's joy, inquisitiveness, ability to learn, compassion, etc.

i don't think he'd have been able to pull off his whole career of con jobs without the emotional maturity of at least a teenager. you have to be aware of other peoples' emotions and how to manipulate them.

that said, he's clearly in mental decline in several areas, and he definitely lacks the emotional maturity to cope with this well, hence the tantrums. so he's probably reverted in practice to the emotional maturity of a 5-year old, but mostly because his present circumstances are playing to his weaknesses.
